Tour de France 2014: stage six – rider reaction

Reaction as Andre Greipel claims victory in Reims

There is no such thing as an easy day in the WorldTour peloton as the Tour de France keeps reminding us.

If the riders hoped for a calm day after the chaos of the cobbled stage five, they were to be disappointed as crosswinds and wet roads made for a nervous bunch.

Once again there was no shortage of crashes, with Jesus Hernandez (Tinkoff-Saxo), Egor Silin (Team Katusha) and Xabier Zandio (Team Sky) all forced to abandon.

And in the end, as the peloton was split by a late acceleration by Omega Pharma-Quickstep, Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) was left to sprint to his first victory of this year’s race.
