Seven day round-up: winter motivation, aluminium vs carbon wheels and Grand Depart date clash dilemma

The best of the last week on RoadCyclingUK

It’s winter, and motivation may be dropping as the dark nights close in and the weather deteriorates.

But never fear, there is still plenty going on here at RCUK Towers.

Winter training may not seem appealing to all, but we have been looking at the ways to stay motivated over winter, and we will also soon be taking a look at how to stay in shape over the winter months.

Winter is here, but there is still plenty going on at RCUK

This season for others means ‘cross – and with more and more people taking up the discipline, we have compiled a list of five essential bits of kit.

And for those wanting to dip their toes into the ‘cross world, who better to take advice from than two-time British champion Ian Field, who shared his tips here.

Preparations are in full flow for the road season too, with British number one Yanto Barker topping the billing at Raleigh next season, while Tom Scully has left the Nottingham brand to join Madison-Genesis.

As ever there will be a few names to get used to too, with the On The Drops women’s team becoming Matrix Vulpine for next season after the latter, the apparel clothing brand, signed up as a co-sponsor.

At the highest tier, Team Sky’s Ben Swift is also raring to go next year as he continues on the recovery trail after injury last year – we caught up with the Yorkshireman here.
