South London-based cycling hub Cadence Performance are bidding to raise £300,000 through crowd-funding platform Crowdcube, with the money to be used to open more sites and launching an online cycling coaching platform.

Currently based in Crystal Palace, the dedicated fitness and social club for road cyclists is – according to a recent Strava survey – the second-most popular cyclists’ café in the capital.

Nearly 5,000 riders regularly drop in, with the café complemented by services such as Wattbike studio, pilates and yoga studio, shop and workshop.

Regular spin classes, weekend rides, fitness testing and coaching also operate from the Crystal Palace hub and founder Frank Beechinor now wants to take their successful enterprise nation-wide.

“We have come a long way since we wrote the business concept on the back of a napkin,” he said.

“Sales are now running at more than £80,000 per month and this extra investment will allow us to expand the business and set us on the road to achieve our ambition of becoming the UK’s largest network of cycling hubs.”

Cadence have indentified 17 potential UK/Ireland based catchments, with their ultimate aim being to create a national (or even international) network of destination cycling hubs.

Coaching services and pro-led club rides also feature among their ambitions for the new network of stores.
