Cannondale 2010 highlights

What can you expect from Cannondale for 2010? Here’s a preview of the highlights, including the SuperSix Hi-Mod which we revealed some time ago.

SuperSix Hi-Mod

Cannondale claim a 56cm SuperSix weighs just 900g which is some 150g lighter than last year’s frame. Even though the designers have managed to cut the weight, they reckon they’ve boosted the stiffness too, citing a 17% increase in the bottom bracket area.

The chainstays have been beefed up, with the driveside stay now up to 54mm tall, a 10% increase. Asymmetric chainstays mean the non-driveside is less tall, saving a bit of weight. Seatstays are super skinny hourglass shaped affairs which should offer some comfort over the rough stuff. The other big change is how the rear triangle is married to the front triangle: layers of carbon are wrapped over each joint, rather than using the previous lugged approach, which Cannondale claim saves weight.

The Six was launched last year as an entry-level carbon fibre all-rounder and for 2010 Cannondale has sliced away 100g of weight, achieved due to a revised lay-up of the carbon. Weight for a 56cm frame is quoted at 1.2kg. There’s now BB30 across the range, weight sizes should ensure a good fit for all and there’s even size-specific carbon dropouts.

CAAD8

Cannondale made their mark on the cycle industry with their aluminium frames, refined to perfection over many years. The CAAD8 uses a classic Cannondale design but most importantly will be available at a new lower price. Frame weight is 1.5kg.

CAAD9

The ultimate aluminium frame that Cannondale offers still proves to be a solid seller, the company reports. It’s now been updated with a BB30 bottom bracket further boosting stiffness and with a carbon fork and 1.25kg frame weight, could be the ideal frame for many ride scenarios.

Synapse Hi-Mod

For the comfort-seeker, riding the Synapse boasts a design that places comfort highly in the list of priorities and, as such, uses many features to increase in the saddle comfort. For next year you can choose from two full carbon frame and fork options: High Modulus or Intermediate Modulus, the latter giving away a 150g weight penalty.
