Just in: Morvélo Pois clothing

Morvélo have sent us their latest creations, and they're a multi-coloured polka dot affair. Do not adjust your screens.

One of the best things about the cycling boom of the last few years is the sheer amount of choice around now. If you’re after new kit there are so many smaller brands outside of the traditional powerhouses that, if you’re looking for something a bit different, you won’t be disappointed.

And I have to confess that I like bike kit that’s a bit off the wall so when the new ‘Pois’ ensemble from south coast brand Morvélo arrived at the office I was pretty keen to get involved. Morvélo are no newbies, of course, and have been making cycling clothing since 2009, garnering a well-deserved reputation for quality in the process and launching some rather cool events as well, like the City Cross race in York.

The Morvélo Pois clothing may be striking, but it’s not short on technical features either

It’s no novelty kit either, packed with features that are aimed at enhancing performance, from the compressive fit of the shorts and the triple density chamois, to the ‘Dual Dri-Clim’ fabric composition of the jersey, the factor 50 sun protection and the laser-cut sleeves. Both jersey and shorts come in sizing from small to XXL, with the shorts adding XS sixing for the whispy climber types. Our test kit jersey and shorts are a medium.

The socks are a blend of ‘SkinLife’ and ‘Coolmax’ materials, which wicks moisture and does its best to make sure that your feet keep a fresh feel throughout the ride. The finishing touch is the cap, which has an anti-bacterial taped brim, a touch that those who are used to cycling caps getting a little smelly will surely be glad of. It’s one size fits all, although in reality this encompasses anyone in the 52-62cm head size range. The catch is that it’s not cheap, with the jersey coming in at £90 and shorts at £120, with the cap at £15 and socks £9.

Given that this is some of the most striking kit we’ve received in a while, we thought it was worth an article in its own right before testing begins. Now I’ll be getting out on the road (and will probably be spotted quite a lot… sorry, couldn’t resist), so look out for reviews in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, check out the gallery below.
