Olympic Bikes: Dan Craven’s Specialized Tarmac SL4

Dan Craven is Namibia’s sole representative in today’s Olympic road race.

A rider for Team IG-Sigma Sport, he is well used to racing on British roads, and has completed his training for today’s contest in America with motor pacing sessions, and in Belgium by racing in the Pro Kermesse series.

We caught up with Dan on Wednesday as he collected his new Specialized Tarmac SL4, supplied by the American manufacturer for his tilt at Olympic success.

Wearing the team strip of Nambia, Craven will represent his countrymen, 10,000 miles from home.

The Specialized Tarmac SL4 was launched just over a year ago. Craven’s Olympic steed is a deep red, in contrast to the black frame he rides for his trade team.

Craven’s machine, fittingly, is equipped with the London edition of 3T’s ARX handlebar stem

Electronic shifting is not the choice for all pros. Craven runs a mechanical Campagnolo Super Record 11 set up

He rolls on Mavic’s super lightweight Cosmic Carbone Ultimates, a 40mm carbon rim with flattened carbon spokes
