“I look forward to achieving my goal of a seventh Tour de France (victory),” said Armstrong. This was announced earlier on Discovery Channel’s website thepaceline.com. “I am excited to get back on the bike and start racing although my condition is far from perfect,” he added.
Armstrong will kick off his season next month at Paris-Nice, a seven day stage race and the first event of the newly formed Pro Tour. Then the Tour of Flanders and then the Tour of Georgia. He will be looking to reach the tour in his best form. He also said that “Johan (Bruyneel, the team’s sports manager) and I will evaluate my fitness later this spring and possibly add some races to the calendar.” This actually makes sense if he plans to attack the hour record as it will give him the form he requires for a tilt at it in August or September.
