Giro d’Italia 2013: behind the scenes with Cannondale Pro Cycling +video

The Giro d’Italia may have finished yesterday, but if 20 stages of racing haven’t been enough to satisfy your desire for the corsa rosa, we have a treat for you.

Cannondale Pro Cycling have found something of a home on RCUK’s sister site, MPORA.com, Europe’s largest action sports website, regularly publishing behind-the-scenes videos documenting their progress in cycling’s elite UCI WorldTour.

Now the boys in green have posted three videos revealing the workings of their Giro campaign, in a series that takes the viewer from the team’s breakfast to bedtime.

Part one, “Green Morning”, joins the team at breakfast, with the riders making a start on calorie intake that can reach as much as 8,000 calories per day, and sees sprinter, Elia Viviani, joke about his climbing prowess as domestique to team leader, Damiano Caruso.

Lucio Marinato, driver of the giant Cannondale Pro Cycling team coach, is the unlikely star of episode two, Life On The Bus. Marinato classifies the sanctity of the coach as the third most important environment for the rider, after his bike and hotel room.

The series closes with episode three, Masseurs and Mechanics, shown in this post. Saul Nencini is one of the team of mechanics preparing each rider’s three bikes. Some, he reveals, have four. While Nencini works at the truck, inside the hotel, masseur, Gabriele Mugnaini, prepares the riders musettes, placing three, freshly-filled bread rolls, gels, and between one and three snacks, depending on the stage, inside.
