“Happiest day of my life,” says Cavendish after birth of daughter

Mark Cavendish may have a Tour de France green jersey and Olympic gold medal to contest in 2012 – but the world road race champion now faces what he has previously called his “biggest challenge of all” after girlfriend Peta Todd gave birth to Delilah Grace Cavendish on Tuesday.

"Happiest day of my life," says Cavendish

“Delilah Grace Cavendish was born a couple of hours ago. She & @petatodd are doing very well. So proud of my girls! Happiest day of my life,” tweeted Cavendish, shortly after midnight.

Cavendish is currently enjoying a break from racing and will not defend his Scheldeprijs title in Belgium today (Wednesday 4).The Manx Missile is due to return to the peloton for the Tour de Romandie on April 24, when he will race alongside Bradley Wiggins in Team Sky colours for the first time.

“Her room’s ready. Her stuff’s ready. Her mum’s ready. I’m more than ready and I’ve got three-and-a-half weeks at home so it works out perfect. It’s already changed me. It’s made me more motivated than ever,” said Cavendish in an interview with the Guardian last week.

Congratulations to Mark and Peta from everyone at RoadCyclingUK.
