Mark Cavendish ‘relatively ok’ after collision with car

Mark Cavendish has become the latest high-profile cyclist to be involved in a collision with a car.

Mark Cavendish was involved in a collision with a car while on a training ride in Italy

The 2011 world champion, who will ride for Omega Pharma-QuickStep in 2013, escaped with a bruised arm after riding into the back of a car during a training ride in Tuscany.

“Went & hit the back of a car that slammed on today in training,” said Cavendish on Twitter. “Wasn’t ideal. Apart from a bruised arm, I’m relatively OK. If anyone cares.”

The news comes after Bradley Wiggins was hit by a car pulling out of a petrol station in Lancashire, while British Cycling head coach Shane Sutton was hospitalised with bruising on the brain after being involved in a collision less than 24 hours later.

Meanwhile, Cavendish announced his engagement to girlfriend Peta Todd in an interview with The Sun. The pair plan to wed in October 2013.
