Revolution series 10: round three – Clancy triumphs again

Double Olympic champion, Ed Clancy (Rapha Condor JLT), has continued his domination of the tenth Revolution track series.

The Yorkshireman, a gold medalist with Great Britain’s team pursuit squad in Beijing and London, won the Flying Lap at the National Cycling Centre, Manchester, for the third successive round of the series.

And drawing on the experience that carried him to Olympic bronze in the omnium last summer, Clancy also won the elimination race, seeing off the challenge of four-time world champion, Franco Marvulli (Howies).

Clancy’s Rapha Condor JLT team now lead the series with 160 points. Rudy Project RT are second, with 135 points, and Rouleur are third with 125.

Clancy’s competitors in the flying lap included Ross Edgar, Olympic silver medalist in the men’s keirin in Beijing, who made his debut for Team IG-Sigma Sport at Revolution.

The Scot clocked a time of 13.541 to finish second in the event. Clancy’s winning time was 13.160.

Another member of Great Britain’s world and Olympic champion team pursuit squad, Peter Kennaugh (Team Sky), won the points race by an impressive margin.

The Manx rider racked up 28 points, more than double the total of second-placed Adam Yates (MaxGear Racing). Russell Downing (NetApp Endura) scored 13 points and finished third.

After hosting the queens of the road, Marianne Vos and Lizzie Armitstead, at the previous round, the third round of the Revolution series showcased the world’s best track sprinters.

Francois Pervis (France) saw off the challenge of young British sprinter, Callum Skinner.

The Frenchman also won the keirin, and secured victory in the team sprint with Matthew D’Almeida and Julien Palma.

ITV4 will broadcast highlights of the racing at 8pm on Wednesday January 9.

Limited VIP and hospitality tickets are available for the fourth round of the Revolution series, which will be held at the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome on Saturday February 2.
