Come and cheer on the stars – August 28th

According to the organiser entries are still open for the Glasgow Grand Prix on Monday August 28th, the eve of the start of the Tour of Britain. A total prize fund of £2000 is up for grabs, with cash for the top 20 finishers, £350 for the winner, and three primes.

The race is a counting event in the British Cycling Elite Circuit Series and starts at 7pm lasting for around an hour. It will be contested over the same 1 kilometre route around George Square Street, Montrose Street and Cochrane Street that hosted the prologue to the Tour of Britain last year.

So far, 15 Tour of Britain riders have entered but the take up from others is slow – Best get the entries in then! The event will also include a Future stars race, featuring the country’s top junior riders (see news story below).

Entries will remain open until August 21st. (see contact details below)

Glasgow Future Stars Race In The Tour of Britain (this from the BC website)

Youth A and B riders (and junior women) have been given a great opportunity to ride in front of big crowds in an exciting city centre venue during the upcoming Tour of Britain.

In association with the Braveheartfund and the Tour of Britain, organiser of the Glasgow Grand Prix Criterium Event, Graeme McGinty is also taking entries for a Future Stars race on the same day, Monday 28th August.

The Future Stars race will be 25 mins plus 5 laps and is open to both male and females in Youth A and B categories. Junior females will also be able to ride. So if there are any Youths out there who fancy racing around closed roads in George Square in Glasgow, then this is a golden opportunity to show how good you are at the biggest bike race in Britain.

After there week away in Belgium, courtesy of the Braveheartfund, Gary Willis Scottish Cycling’s National Development Coach, will bring the Youth Squad along to keep the quality of the field high. Interested?
