Just 6 weeks after online entries opened for the 6th Dragon Ride Wales, over 2/3rds of the allotted 3000 places have already been filled making it the fastest entry take-up in the events history.

“It’s incredible;” says organizer Lou Lusardi of BreakAway Cycling, “at a time when there is a lot of understandable anxiety about the economy it just goes to show that, in cycling at least, things are very buoyant indeed.” The Dragon Ride Wales, which was recently voted Britain’s Favourite Sportive, has embraced the country’s vote of approval with an all-new start section of 20km featuring two new tough climbs winding through beautiful forest and an all new enhanced start/finish area.

“I think we’ve come up with a fantastic new opening section. I have ridden it many times now with friends of the ride and the feedback has always been excellent. I know entrants will enjoy it”, comments Lusardi.

The UK press will get a chance to try out the delights awaiting 3000 riders in June when the event holds its second press day in March, so look out for first impressions.

The 6th Dragon Ride Wales will take place on 14th June 2009, starting and finishing in Bridgend and taking riders on a choice of either 125km or 185km routes across the beautiful Brecon Beacons and including the legendary climbs of Rhignos and the Bwlch, made famous by regular inclusion in the Milk Race and the Tour of Britain.
