Tour de France 2013: stage 19 – rider reaction

The men of the Tour were left with little time to digest the “double d’Huez”.

Sprinters, sick of the mountains after forcing down the main course of this year’s Alpine banquet – a twin ascent of the Tour’s most iconic climb – would have had little taste for  a dessert that included the Glandon and the Madeline.

The climbers, and, of course, the fans, however, gorged themselves on another feast of decidedly chewy climbs. Rui Costa (Movistar) wolfed down the Col de la Croix Fry with the hunger of a man starved of victory, even though he begun the Tour less than a fortnight after claiming a second overall victory in the Tour de Suisse.

Here are a few morsels from those who dine at cycling’s top table – occasionally with little appetite.
