Giro d’Italia 2014: stage eight – photo gallery

All the action from the mountainous 179km run from Foligno to Montecopiolo captured by lensman Stefano Sirotti

The first of three stages of the 2014 Giro d’Italia dedicated to the memory of Marco Pantani delivered an exciting uphill finish.

Julien Arredondo (Trek), like Pantani, a diminutive climber, almost rode to a memorable stage victory, but was passed 1,500m from home by Pierre Rolland, a former holder of the Tour de France King of the Mountains jersey.

But just when it appeared that the Frenchman might seal a hugely impressive victory, he succumbed to a late flurry of attacks that saw the lead change hands four times in the final 350m.

It was Diego Ulissi (Lampre-Merida) who finished the stage with his hands in the air for the second time in three days. The young Italian climber also won stage five.

Relive the action from the 179km eighth stage from Foligno to Montecopiolo through the lens of official UCI WorldTour photographer, Stefano Sirotti.
