John Degenkolb (Giant-Shimano) continued his love affair with the Vuelta a Espana on stage 12, repeating his 2012 victory in Logrono to seal a hat-trick of wins in this year’s edition.

The German fast man, wearing the green jersey, was said by team bosses to be out of condition after suffering a crash on stage seven but he allayed any fears by storming to victory on the Logrono circuit.

He may be some way behind war-time cycling legend Delio Rodriguez (39) in the all-time list of Vuelta a Espana stage wins, but the eighth victory of his career is unlikely to be his last.
