Team Sky sign Alex Peters and Tao Geoghegan Hart

Two young, talented British riders snapped up by the World Tour team, with Peters making his debut in this Sunday's RideLondon Classic

Hot off the heels of their Tour success, Team Sky have wasted no time in looking further into the future by signing two talented young British riders: Alex Peters and Tao Geoghegan Hart.

Peters, 21, a former Madison Genesis rider, has joined from SEG Racing Academy where he scored second overall at the Tour of Normandy and a stage win at the Tour de Bretagne this season. He joins as stagiaire but had already agreed a two-year contract with the team which he’ll sign on January 1st, 2016. Peters will debut for Sky straight away, suiting up for the first time at this weekend’s RideLondon Classic.

Geoghegan Hart, on the other hand, comes into the Sky setup from the Axeon Cycling Team where he’s been for two years. His achievements there included 15th overall at the 2014 Tour of Britain, 10th at the Tour de l’Avenir and 3rd at the U23 Liege-Bastogne-Liege. Not bad for a rider who’s still only 20.

Sky’s Head of Performance Operations Rod Ellingworth was delighted by the signings, saying “Britain is producing some of the best cyclists in the world and I am proud of the role that Team Sky can play in inspiring and supporting home-grown talent.

“We’ve been watching Alex and Tao progress over the last few years and they’re both showing real promise. It’s a big step in their developing careers and we’re happy that they are taking that step with us.”
