London Cycle Sportive to include cycling locations from 1948 and 2012 Olympics

A sportive inspired by the location of cycling events from the London Olympic Games of 1948 and 2012 will be held for the first time on Sunday June 30.

The London Cycle Sportive starts at Dulwich Park and ends at Herne Hill Velodrome, the location for track cycling events at the 1948 Games.

Three routes are offered – 50km, 100km, and 100 miles – in a bid to cater for all levels of rider.

The London Cycle Sportive will take in the locations of cycling events from the 1948 and 2012 London Olympic Games

Riders will roll out of Dulwich Park and down to the Surrey Hills, where the route will take in the climb of Box Hill made famous by the men’s and women’s Olympic road races.

The 50km route takes in views from the North Downs, and includes 455 metres of climbing, with a single ascent of 275 metres.

Riders on the 100km medium route will take on 812 metres of climbing on a route that takes in the rural roads between Reigate and Dorking and the climb of Box Hill.

The event will help to raise funds for the Official Charity Access Sport and is backed by the charity’s ambassadors, Rebecca Romero and Greg Searle, both Olympic gold medalists.

The 100-mile long route continues from the medium route to the North Downs Way at Ranmore Common, and includes 1098 metres of climbing.

Human Race, the team behind the Wiggle Etape Cymru and Wiggle Dragon Ride events are organising the London Cycle Sportive. RCUK readers voted the Etape Cymru and the Dragon Ride the number one and two sportives of 2012.

The London Cycle Sportive is billed as perfect preparation for riders who have secured a place in the Ride London 100 or an alternative for those who missed out.
