The ‘St George’s Day’ event – so called because it is held on the closest Sunday to April 23 each year – will be held on Sunday April 21 2013.

Some 800 riders tackled the event this year, taking on one of three routes through the Chiltern Hills.

The full route is 135km, with a total elevation gain of 1,800 metres and a maximum gradient of 15 per cent.

Riders tackling the medium route will face a course of 110km and a high point of 253 metres; the latter matching the full route.

The short route offers a 74km introduction to sportive riding for newcomers, but one with plenty of challenges: an elevation gain of 1,180km among them.

Entry costs £20 and includes a marked route, mechanical support, a broom wagon with first aid support, feed stations, a free energy drink and snacks, electronic timing, and immediate results with gold, silver, and bronze standards.
