Champions of CycleSport dinner raises more than £270,000

Sir Chris Hoy and Geraint Thomas among star-studded guests at annual event

Sir Chris Hoy and Geraint Thomas were among the stars in attendance at this year’s Champions of CycleSport Dinner, as more than £270,000 was raised for Action Medical Research.

The sixth annual dinner, at which Sir Dave Brailsford, Chris Boardman, Rochelle Gilmore, Dani King and Stephen Roche were also among the star-studded guests, took place at Battersea Evolution on Thursday November 26.

Hosted by Ned Boulting, and with interviews conducted by Dermot Murnaghan, the evening included chauffeur services from event partner Maserati and a silent auction.

Guests were able to vote on lots including a trip for two to Mallorca with Team Sky, a day in the Madison-Genesis team car at the Tour of Britain and a signed Maserati Cipollini BOND road bike.

Chris Froome’s signed yellow jersey, a bespoke training plan from Rowe & King and a signed Paul Oz painting of Geraint Thomas also went under the hammer.

Boardman, the official event ambassador, said: “I’m so proud to be the ambassador for the Champions of CycleSport Dinner, raising funds for Action Medical Research.

“Not only is it a fantastic evening for an extremely worthwhile cause but they also lead the pack when it comes to organising great cycling events.

“I would encourage any cyclist to get a place on one of their rides, as you’re guaranteed a well-planned event and you’ll also be supporting Action’s efforts to help many thousands of families dealing with the trauma of a baby born too early, striving to support a child affected by disability, or facing the challenge of caring for a child with a rare disease for which there is no cure.”
