Chapeau to sportive organiser, Human Race, whose events in June raised over £250,000 for charity.
The combined total of funds raised from the Wiggle Dragon Ride, Financial Times London Cycle, and Cycletta series has already topped the quarter-of-a-million pounds mark, and with pledges still outstanding, is expected to top £300,000.
Some £167,700 was raised from the 10th anniversary edition of the Wiggle Dragon Ride, widely considered Britain’s toughest sportive. Of that total, £77,000 was raised for the event’s official charity, Prostate Cancer UK, and organisers are confident the sum will rise to £110,000.
The Cycletta series, which included a route at the Dragon Ride and a ride in Bedfordshire, has raised over £22,500 for various charities through JustGiving. Macmillan Cancer Support, the series’ official charity, received a further £19,000, with the sum expected to rise to over £30,000.
Access Sport was the chief beneficiary of the last Human Race event of June, the Financial Times London Cycle Sportive, and is set to receive £30,000 of the nearly £40,000 raised from the event.
A spokesman for Human Race said the company was extremely proud of the important funds raised by participants this summer.
The next event on the company’s calendar is the Etape Cymru, billed as Britain’s toughest closed-road sportive.
