Sir Dave Brailsford to ride Etape Eryri sportive

British Cycling and Team Sky boss to return to north Wales sportive on June 15

Sir Dave Brailsford is best known for plotting the path to glory for others – but on Sunday June 15 the man behind British Cycling and Team Sky’s success will be in the saddle himself for the Etape Eryri sportive.

Brailsford is set to ride the event, described by its organisers as one of the “most challenging and beautiful sportives in the UK”, for the third year running when it returns to north Wales this summer.

The sportive pits riders against a 105-mile course through the heart of Snowdonia National Park, with 76 and 47-mile routes also available, as well as a 6.5-mile family ride.

Brailsford, who juggles two day jobs as performance director of British Cycling and team principal of Team Sky, grew up near the sportive’s start in Caernarfon and has ridden the event since its inception in 2012, the year Sir Bradley Wiggins became the first Briton to win the Tour de France.

“Anybody who’s thinking about doing any event should come down here and do this one – it’s going to be fantastic,” said Brailsford.

The sportive is expected to attract 1,500 riders, with entry costing £39.99 for the long course, £35.99 for the medium route and £31.99 for the short course.

Event director Tim Lloyd added: “The fact that Sir Dave is coming back to take on the Etape Eryri for the third year running speaks volumes about the quality of the event.

“Sir Dave is himself a local man so he loves that fact that we are investing so heavily into the local economy and the way that we engage with the local community. We are very grateful to him for his support and can’t wait to see him on the start line in June.”
