CXR
Finally, the CXR is Boardman’s all-new cyclo-cross platform. It’s takes the concept of a do-it-all ‘cross bike to a new level, combining, Boardman say, race-ready pedigree with compatibility for mudguards and a rear rack.
Chris Boardman described the CXR to us as a road/cross hybrid, with a swap of tyres converting it from one to the other. That looks an appealing option for the CXR 9.4 Di2 equipped with Shimano’s new hydraulic disc brakes.
That’s the top-of-the-range model and also comes with wheels made up of Mavic TN319 rims and Formula hubs, wrapped in 35mm Continental X-King tyres. Claimed weight is 9kg, yours for £3,299.99.
Otherwise, the CXR 9.2 has SRAM Force 22 with Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes for £2,299.99. Claimed weight is 8.6kg.
While the CXR 9.4 and 9.2 are based around a carbon monocoque frame (available separately for £1,299.99), the CXR 9.0 features an aluminium frame dressed in SRAM Force 22 with Avid BB7 mechanics discs for £2,299.99 and a claimed weight of 9.5kg.
The first SLS, SLR and CXR models from the new Elite Series range will be available from December, with further models being added early in early 2014, while the AiR/TTE will be available from the spring.
