Christmas gift guide 2013: items for less than £100

Gift ideas for the cyclist in your life as Christmas Day draws nearer

The importance of a good set of lights as the days continue to offer very little daylight for the commuting cyclist or the weekend rider can not be overstated. For the most powerful lights available, suitable for riding on unlit roads, more than £100 will be required, but there are still plenty of good options available if you intend riding on urban roads, well illuminated by street lights.

Lights are essential for riding at this time of year

The Cateye Volt 1200, distributed by Zyro, offers an astonishing 1200 lumens of output but comes in above our budget at £149.99. However, the company does offer a front and rear light bundle from the same range, offering 300 lumens up front and 50 lumens at the rear respectively via their website. Another light to have passed through RCUK recently is the RSP RX480 – with a maximum claimed output of 480 lumens, an impressive figure for just £59.99. The Lezyne Zecto Drive Pro pictured above will churn out a maximum of 160 lumens, and can be used at the front or rear, making it a useful back-up light for £44.99.
