One of the most photographed bikes at Core was this Team Sky-issue Pinarello Dogma 65.1 Think 2 used to promote Stages’ partnership with the British WorldTour outfit.
Stages have replaced SRM as Team Sky’s power meter supplier just two years after launching their crank-based system. The Stages unit takes a power reading 64 times a second and transmits the data to any ANT+ compatible computer or the Stages app.
The Stages power meter is one of the most affordable on the market, with prices ranging from £599 to £799, and the US firm’s partnership with Team Sky, who have led the peloton in training and racing with power, serves as a powerful validation of the product.
“The part that we were really excited about is that what Team Sky were looking for is what the general public are looking for,” Stages’ Pat Warner told RoadCyclingUK. “Low weight, ease of use, temperature compensated and the capability to use a range of computers.
“It’s not just about us giving them the product. It’s a development relationship as well and there’s a lot we can learn from their feedback. It’s unlikely that we’ll change the product drastically but they may have this great idea which improves the product for everybody. That’s really exciting for us as well.
“We’re trying to create a product which is attainable for cyclists as power meters haven’t previously been viewed as attainable. Most people who buy a $3,000 bike aren’t going to buy a $3,000 power meter, but someone who spends that on a bike might spend $600 on a power meter as that’s a reasonable ratio.”
