Genesis Croix de Fer goes Ti
Genesis Croix de Fer goes Ti
The Croix de Fer is a long-time Genesis favourite and has had the titanium treatment for 2016. The existing steel frames remain in the range but this beautiful ti model tops the collection at £2,999.99.
It’ll also be available as a standalone frameset for £1,799.99 if you want to piece together your own build, and is made from 3AL-2.5V butted titanium.
The Croix de Fer is another bike with versatility as its heart. It’s a frame designed for long-distance riding and that’s highlighted by the fact that this titanium version of the frame has three bottle cage mounts for particularly long riders – or just super-thirsty riders.
The Ti frame has an oversized 44mm diameter downtube and a tapered headtube paired with a full carbon fork, which has clearance for 40mm tyres and mudguard eyelets. Out back the seattube tapers from its beefy junction with the bottom bracket to accept a skinny 27.2mm seatpost.
Build kit
The £2,999.99 bike is equipped with a Shimano 105 groupset, plus Shimano BR-RS785 hydraulic disc brakes. The wheels combine tubeless-ready Alex Draw rims and Shimano HB/FH-RS505 Centrelock hubs. They’re shod with 35mm Clement X’Plor USH tyres. Otherwise, the bike is completed by Genesis own-brand finishing kit, including the same RandoX Flared handlebar as the Datum.
Elsewhere in the Croix de Fer range, there are three builds based around a steel Reynolds 725 frame, starting at £1,199.99 with Shimano Tiagra and rising to £1,699.99 with Shimano 105. The Reynolds 725 chassis is also available as a frameset for £399.99. Finally, completing the range, is a machine built around a chromoly frame and Shimano Tiagra groupset for £1,199.99.
Next up, let’s take a look at the new Genesis Equilibrium Disc.
