'Go the distance' or GTD is the name of the new intercontinental platform born from the successful GF-Ti platform from Kinesis Bikes. Where the now ubiquitous three letter acronym is usually quite hyperbolic, the GTD might just live up to it's name having been the choice of not one, but two riders at this year's Transcontinental Race.

Something for the Weekend showcases our pick of the latest tech to arrive at RoadCyclingUK. You can see more here

The frameset picks up where the previous model left off with a custom drawn and seamless titanium tubeset and a full carbon fork tied up with the proven geometry unchanged.

The devil is in the details then, and look to the axles first of all, the now firmly cemented standard of 12mm thru axles feature in the design to ensure that disc wheels are set straight and true each time. Increased tyre clearance also reflects the popularity of increasing tyre sizes too, start to look closer and this is not just an experiment in rebranding, this is a rig brought into line with every modern convention.

Thankfully the increase in stiffness that inevitably comes with thru axles is promised to be handled by the swooping seat stays that in Kinesis' experience have delivered compliance in abundance, add that to the legendary ride feel of titanium and lack of compliance is not something that's going to keep us up at night.

The frame weight has been reduced over the previous model thanks to modern manufacturing processes, and with an extended 5 year warranty, you're sure to be comfortable in the knowledge that this bike is set for the future too.

The bike has all the mounts you could possibly want (with exception of perhaps a third bottle cage mount under the down tube) and a chain pip to hold the chain while the rear wheel is removed. It can be the small details such as this that can make life just so much easier after two weeks of racing through numerous countries.

That said, this bike is promised to be just at home on the local roads and your weekend sportive, and our initial impressions find that to be adequately true, watch this space for a more extensive review in the near future.
