Pactimo’s Summit Stratos bib shorts were something of a revelation when we reviewed them last summer. “We’d happily pull these shorts from the kit drawer for just about any ride. They are supremely comfortable,” was our verdict.
It’s all about comfort as far as these shorts are concerned. In fact, Pactimo describe the Summit Stratos shorts as 'the 12-hour bibs', because they are designed with ultra-endurance events like the Cape Epic and Dirty Kanza in mind.
That comfort comes through the use of a super-soft, lightweight fabric, which moulds to the legs like a second skin. As well as being extremely lightweight and comfortable next to the skin, the material, dubbed ‘Cerami-K’ by Pactimo, is said to contain ceramic particles, which apparently aid temperature regulation and provide additional protection in the event of a crash.
Seal of approval
These are some of the most comfortable shorts we’ve tested in recent times and richly deserve their spot in the RCUK 100. The Summit Stratos shorts will provide superb comfort on any ride but should be your first choice if you’re planning to spend long hours in the saddle.
Breathability is excellent, although we still haven’t brought ourselves to crash in these shorts to test the durability of those ceramic particles.
The straps are wide, mesh affairs which sit comfortably over the shoulders. In fact, the upper half of the shorts is made from mesh, again helping to keep things cool and comfortable. The only thing to watch out for is the cut comes up a little big, so consider moving down a size from normal.

Meanwhile, the pad comes from chamois specialists Cytech and strikes a top-notch balance between plush and streamlined.
Like the rest of the shorts, it naturally hugs the contours of the body and provides graduated padding in all the right areas.

Add in the soft, laser-cut silicone grippers (available in two leg lengths) and you can see why the Summit Stratos shorts are among our favourites.
Sure, they come with a considerable price tag, but on-bike comfort like this is hard to come by.
