Oversocks were first used in the peloton in the 1980s, with Laurent Jalabert and Sean Yates among the early adopters, and DeFeet were one of the first cycling brands to manufacture oversocks.
DeFeet Slipstream oversocks – review
Their Slipstream socks are excellent. They’re fairly thick as oversocks go and have a tall cuff, combining to offer a good level of warmth. Like Prendas’ oversocks, they use a tough Cordura fabric (60 per cent Cordura, 30 per cent nylon, ten per cent lycra) to increase their durability – but you do have to cut your own cleat hole and that takes some car to get a clean cut. As a bonus, they’re available in a range of colours, including high-viz yellow and pink.
