Deda M35 handlebar (£257.99 carbon or £76.99 alloy)
Deda M35 handlebar (£257.99 carbon or £76.99 alloy)
One company who have gone in a slightly different direction with their handlebars is Deda. The Italians have developed what they call their M35 conecpt, which is basically a bar that’s 35mm in diameter rather than the typical 31.8mm at the clamping area to improve stiffness and decrease flex.
In fact, the carbon versions go a step further and keep that 35mm diameter all the way along the top of the bars, making for a thicker surface to hold onto which some riders may (or may not) find more comfortable.
The trade-off is that you obviously add a little weight for a thicker bar, and the carbon versions come in at 210g (so they’re not heavy by any means, just not super-light).
The good thing is that you don’t have to spend over £200 on the carbon version if you want to give the bars a try. The £77 alloy version has that same 35mm clamping diameter although thins down a little towards the ends of the tops to save some weight. Even so, if the claimed 278g for a set is correct, they’re not upsettingly heavy and if you want that extra thickness then it might be worth it.
