Émonda ALR
Émonda ALR
The biggest changes in the Émonda family come in the newest member: the Émonda ALR. Where the launch had three models: the ALR 6 and 5, the ALR 4 has now been added to the line up.
On top of that, both the existing models have had a price drop, making them even more enticing than before for anyone wanting to get into aluminium.
The ALR 6 now comes in at £1,400 which gets you a 300 series aluminium frame in H2 fit finished with Trek’s ‘invisible weld’ technology (which has to be seen to be believed) paired to a full carbon fork. Bontrager provide the finishing kit in the form of Race bars, a carbon seatpost and a Paradigm Race saddle. Down to the drivetrain and it’s full Shimano Ultegra 6800 (50/34 crankset, 11-28t cassette). We’ve already had chance to test out the ALR 6, and we were very impressed with how it ride, and at £300 less it’s even more of a bargain. Sizing is extensive, going from 50-64cm and if you want a build option rather than stock, it’s available as a frameset, too.
The ALR 5 drops to £1,100 and gets a serious aesthetic upgrade in the form of this very smart Trek Factory Racing team ‘Viper Red’ colour scheme.
With the same frame and fork as the ALR 6, the main change is the 105 drivetrain instead of Ultegra at the same 50/34, 11-28 gear ratios. Wheels also drop slightly from Bontrager’s Race to unbranded Bonty offerings.
The newest bike in the range is the ALR 4. At just £900 it comes in the same Viper Red as the 5 (as well as Pearl Black and matt black options), but a matt version without the team decals. Drivetrain is the new Shimano Tiagra, again in 50/34, 11-28 and it’s 10 speed rather than the 11-speed of 105 and Ultegra.
