Sunday rider: how to make the most of a day in the saddle

Can a weekend ride out be constructive as well as social?

Making the most of the weekend wind down

Cycling without the pressure of limited time can add a whole new dimension to your enjoyment. Where possible try to factor your weekend ride in around family and other commitments, allowing yourself enough time to relax, de-stress and enjoy the full benefits that cycling can bring.

Riding in a relaxed state can replenish a tired mind very quickly. Try not to over commit yourself at the weekends and if a ride is planned then set that time aside and incorporate a route that doesn’t stretch yourself too thinly to the point where you know you will be rushing. Factor in some time for the unthinkable, such as a puncture, so that your Sunday unwind doesn’t turn into a windup. Maximise the time you have available and be realistic about your commitments, this way you’ll get the most from your weekend miles.
