Twelve ways to maintain motivation this winter

How to keep riding through winter

Book a training camp

Training for a training camp seems something of an oxymoron but it’s important to arrive in reasonable shape if you are to reap the rewards that a week’s riding can offer. The promise of sun-kissed roads is enough to put to put a spring in any rider’s step.

Training camps typically run from February to April and while Majorca remains the go-to destination for pros and amateurs alike thanks to its (largely) fine weather, superb roads and long climbs, other popular spots include Andalucia, Tenerife, Girona and Nice.

If the idea of a training camp seems intimidating, many tour operators, including Wheels in Wheels, now run weeks aimed specifically at sportive riders, if your goals don’t stretch to racing. There is nothing better than riding care-free with the sun on your back after a hard winter.
