Race
The racing season traditionally runs through spring and summer but the continued popularity of the sport, and the increased number of traffic-free crit circuits, has led to a growing number of winter race series.
Racing through winter will enable you to keep your top-end fitness sharp and the competitive element is likely to kick-start motivation. If you’re new to racing then winter is as good a time to start than any – or try your hand at cyclo-cross or mountain bike racing, which are both less intimidating routes of entry into competitive cycle sport.
If your heart lies on the road, however, then the Imperial Winter Series runs at the Hillingdon circuit in London from December to February and the British Cycling website lists races across the country.
