Bradley Wiggins Foundation launches with Ride with Brad Sportive
Ride with Bradley Wiggins in Lancashire on Sunday August 19
Bradley Wiggins has launched a foundation with the aim to promote participation in sport and the Ride with Brad Sportive has been pencilled in as the charity's first event on Sunday August 19.
The sportive will come less than a month after the finish of the Tour de France and will offer riders the chance to pedal alongside Wiggins.
Wiggins is among the favourites for this year's Tour, and the 32-year-old will then turn his attention to the Olympic Games, where he will ride in support of Mark Cavendish in the road race on July 28 before going alone in the time trial on August 1.
The 100km and 160km sportive routes will use Wiggins' favourite training roads in Lancashire, taking in the climbs and descents which have frequently featured in the Tour of Lancashire, the Tour of Britain and the National Road Race Championships.
Both routes will feature the climbs of Barley Fell, Waddington Fell, Longridge Fell and the Nick o’ Pendle, with the long course also completing a moorland loop around the Trough of Bowland.
"Come and join me on a challenging ride through the stunning Lancashire countryside and experience the roads and climbs I regularly train on," said Wiggins.
"This brand new event has been specially organised to help celebrate the launch of the Bradley Wiggins Foundation. I look forward to welcoming you all and riding alongside many of you on what will be a special day for all the family."
The sportive is being organised by the Pennine Events Company, with four feed stations on the long route and two on the short course. The event will be chip timed and MapMyTracks will be organising timed challenges on some of the key climbs. Wiggle will provide mechanical support.
