Chris Hoy

Great Britain had a superb first day at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, achieving medals in an impressive number of events.

In the Individual Pursuit England took their first ever one, two, three win with Paul Manning, Rob Hayles and Stephen Cummings taking Gold, Silver and Bronze medals between them - what a fantastic result!

Elsewhere in the Men's Kilo, Ben Kersten (Australia) dropped to the ground with emotion as he heard that he'd taken Gold, after a number of setbacks this was a well deserved win for the Australian. Closely following were our GB boys Jason Queally and Chris Hoy taking Silver and Bronze respectively.

Both riders put in a strong start and got off to a smooth first lap. It was defending champion Hoy who looked set to storm into the lead as he rode the fastest time for the first lap but he faded towards the finish leaving Silver to Queally and taking the Bronze, putting two more of our riders on the podium on day one.

So, a big congratulations to all of our riders. Look out for more reports thoughout the week of events.
