The first ever para cycling event at the Commonwealth Games was certainly one of the best supported as the Scottish fans roared Aileen McGlynn and pilot Louise Haston to their first cycling medal of their home Games.
But the seamless way it was fitted into the schedule begs the question as to why it has not featured before now.
Cycling is one of the last sports to welcome para sport disciplines to the Commonwealth Games, but after one day you would hope it will be here to stay.
Super happy with today’s racing! A nice wee silver medal with @amcglynn1 @Team_Scotland @ScottishCycling pic.twitter.com/g6YY8eMpvx

The fast-paced nature of the tandem sprint meant it fitted easily into the ebb and flow of the day’s proceedings and that it delivered Scotland’s first medal of the Games was an added plus point.
Many para cycling disciplines have still missed out, of course, but the same can be said of the Madison, omnium and women’s team pursuit and team sprint.
With Scottish favourites Neil Fachie and Craig MacLean going for gold in the men’s events too, the host nation will certainly be delighted with its inclusion this year.
