Jack Bobridge – 60-minute man
Rohan Dennis’ overall victory means he is looking in great shape for his UCI Hour Record attempt next month, but it will be interesting see what sort of mark he has to beat.
Compatriot Jack Bobridge also enjoyed a great Tour Down Under ahead of his own 60 minutes of pain next Saturday, January 31.
A stage win, from the break, two days in the ochre jersey and the King of the Mountains jersey after two further days spent gobbling up points in the breakaway show he is certainly in great form.
With a quick turnaround, all that remains now is to prove he can return to the track and find his legs on Saturday.
The South Australian has plenty of experience in that regard though – indeed, his Commonwealth Games success last year followed his taking on of the Criterium du Dauphine.
He told local press the plan is now to use the week to re-find his track legs and just keep things ticking over before taking on the prestigious challenge.
If he can recapture the powerful form he showed in the break on stage one, it will be his mark and not Matthias Brandle’s existing record of 51.852km which Dennis will have to beat in February.
