Andy Fenn, the Hertfordshire-born Scotsman resident at one of the biggest teams in professional cycling, has flown under the radar, despite his impressive performances. Were his efforts made in a Team Sky jersey, it’s likely he would enjoy a higher profile, in his home nation at least, but one suspects such concerns do not trouble Fenn. A strong ride in support of Mark Cavendish at last year’s national road race champions announced his presence to many who had been previously unaware of his considerable abilities.
His third place finish on today’s final stage of the Tour Down Under, made in pursuit of winner Andre Greipel and his team-mate, Mark Renshaw, both established stars, revealed a talent to hang with the best, much as he had shown in his support for Cavendish last year in Glasgow. Fenn will race under the saltire this summer when he will represent the home nation at the Commonwealth Games. Another opportunity to shine on one of the biggest stages in sport beckons. He is unlikely to squander the opportunity.
