BMC Racing have confirmed that Australian ace Rohan Dennis will attempt the hour record on February 8 in Grenchen, Switzerland.
Dennis, who signed for BMC Racing from Garmin-Sharp midway through the 2014 season, has already proved his credentials against the clock after leading the team to world team trial success in September.
A perennial contender in time trials in 2014 – both at Garmin-Sharp and BMC Racing – Dennis also boasts a strong track background in the Australian squad.
The 24-year-old, alongside fellow record challenger Bobridge, was in the team pursuit quartet which won silver behind Great Britain at London 2012 and has two world team pursuit titles on his palmares.
Dennis also won time trial silver for Australia on the road at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and by getting an early attempt in, looks likely to have a great shot at the hour record.
Matthias Brandle’s mark will take some beating, but Dennis will no doubt look to learn from the Austrian’s errors – he faded significantly after the halfway point – and start the year by laying down a big marker for any attempts to come.
