Nine stages are done and dusted, and it's fair to say that the 2018 Vuelta a Espana is well and truly living up to its Grand Tour status. And with seven different stage winners already, it is one of the most unpredictable editions in recent memory.

After starting with a short 8km individual time trial around the city of Malaga on the opening day, the racing has been fast and furious ever since. There has already been four different red jersey holders, and although there is currently a Brit at the top of general classification, it is the veteran Alejandro Valverde who has stolen the show at his home race so ar.

The 38-year-old already has two stage wins to his name (including out sprinting a certain Peter Sagan in an uphill drag race to claim stage eight), and is sat just one second behind Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) in the standings.

With the racing paused for the first rest day, we've taken a look at some of the best images so far from this year's race. And if you ever wondered what goes into being a Grand Tour photographer, we caught up with Alex Broadway before this year's Tour de France.
