Stage 14 – Treviso to Valdobbiadene 59.2km ITT
With just one individual time trial on this year’s route, the GC men stronger against the clock will certainly be looking to squeeze every second out of their rivals en route from Treviso to Valdobbiadene.
At 59.2 kilometres in length, the rolling route will offer little in the way of hiding places, right up until its small uphill kick to the finish.
It is unlikely Britain’s world champion, Sir Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky), will be riding Grand Tours next season – particularly if Froome takes up Contador’s challenge, so it will be the latter two with the best chance to shine on this Giro route.
Rigoberto Uran (Omega Pharma-Quickstep), should he race the Giro – at the presentation, last year’s runner-up was non-committal – will be another favourite having showcased his ability against the clock this season.
The first 30 kilometres are almost entirely flat and mostly straight with only one major right-hand bend to contend with.
The undulating latter half of the course is packed with tricky, technical sections however – particularly on the descent of San Pietro di Feletto.
And the short, uncategorised hill before the finish, followed by the kick at the end, could certainly catch some riders out.
