Richie Porte to BMC Racing
Richie Porte to BMC Racing
Richie Porte’s time at Team Sky is up, that much has been confirmed, with Chris Froome’s loyal lieutenant set for pastures new.
Despite rumours all season about interest from Orica-GreenEDGE, who lack a definitive Grand Tour leader, it looks to be BMC Racing who are set to snap Porte up, offering the Australian GC leadership.
With Cadel Evans still behind the scenes for BMC Racing, Porte seems a good fit for the big-money team, offering the perfect foil to Tejay van Garderen’s own GC ambitions.
Where one will target the Tour de France, the other will be after Giro d’Italia supremacy – and with the likes of Damiano Caruso and the recently retained Samuel Sanchez offering support there is plenty of talent on the American team’s roster.
RCUK rumour rating: 5/5
Porte has confirmed he will be leaving Team Sky at the end of the season and while Orica-GreenEDGE looks a good match for the Australian, the likely destination will be BMC Racing. Whereas Porte has ridden in support of Froome for the past four years, next year they’ll be rivals on the road.
