Wouter Wippert to Cannondale-Garmin
Wouter Wippert to Cannondale-Garmin
Cannondale-Garmin haven’t enjoyed as much success as may have been hoped for when the Cannondale and Garmin-Sharp squads merged last winter.
But their bid to amend that has been kicked off with Wouter Wippert set to join from Australian outfit Drapac.
Wondering where you’ve heard that name before? Wippert was a stage winner at the Tour Down Under and also mixed it with the best at the Tour of California, earning a number of podium spots behind Mark Cavendish and Peter Sagan.
The Dutchman has five wins to his name in all this season, and having proved he can sprint with the WorldTour’s finest once already, he will be keen to prove himself at the highest level.
Cannondale-Garmin, meanwhile, have just six wins between them as a team this season so 24-year-old Wippert, should he join as expected, will be the man charged with correcting that in 2016.
RCUK rumour rating: 5/5
Wippert is ready to step up to WorldTour level and Cannondale-Garmin need a rider capable of achieving regular success. It’s a good fit and a move which just needs the final signature.
