Cote de La Redoute
Cote de La Redoute
The Cote de la Redoute is the most iconic of the race’s climbs and fans will pack the roadside on Sunday, clamoring for a view of their heroes on its punishing slopes.
Peaking with 35km to go until the finish, the big-name contenders will be desperate to be on the front of the bunch when it hits the 2km climb.
An average gradient of 8.9 per cent sounds grueling enough, but the climb kicks up nastily after a right-hand turn and the ever-changing gradient quickly saps any energy from the legs.
But it’s not on the steepest part of the climb where the attacks are most likely to happen. Instead, a flat section over the top offers the perfect springboard for riders to go clear and break free from struggling riders in need of recovery.
Always ridden full-gas, the climb has become an icon of Liege-Bastogne-Liege for good reason and is likely to once again see fireworks on Sunday.
