Tour de Suisse 2014: preview

World champion Rui Costa bids for third straight title

Sir Bradley Wiggins leads a strong Team Sky unit in Switzerland, with Colombian Sergio Henao set to be welcomed back to the fray for one. Wiggins, winner in California, is one of the form-riders for the team too, and will be keen to prove a point ahead of the Tour de France where he claims he will not be selected. The time trials provide a great opportunity for him to earn a big gap on his rivals and, while the biggest climbs posed problems in California, he was never too far behind that he lost his overall lead.

With stages suiting aggressive riding, Wiggins is likely to be in his element too – the likes of Peter Kennaugh and Dario Cataldo no doubt set to play important roles burning their rivals on any incline they can. With WorldTour points available, too, Sky will be keen to see Wiggins at his best in Switzerland. He reminded everybody in California just what he can achieve when he is in the mood – and if the same rings true next week, he will certainly be the man to watch.
