Third last year, the Tour de Suisse represents a rare opportunity for Roman Kreuziger to earn some individual success before his focus turns to acting as super domestique to Alberto Contador at the Tour. His form this year has been bettered among the Tinkoff-Saxo ranks only by Contador himself and road captain, Michael Rogers, and his aggressive riding at Tirreno-Adriatico, where he finished third, show he is much more than just a strong support rider in the mountains.
Those attacks, at both Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour of the Basque Country, were a reminder of how strong Kreuziger is when the roads head skywards and he will certainly not struggle on the summit finishes. Kreuziger has also enjoyed success in Switzerland in the past – his third place last year complementing Tour de Suisse victory in 2008 and Tour de Romandie success the following year. Relishing life at Tinkoff-Saxo, this year could provide the most impressive victory of the lot.
