Three-time Olympic champion Jason Kenny will likely compete for honours in the men’s sprint and keirin, as he bids to defend his world title in the latter and improve on last year’s quarter-final spot in the former. Kenny had big shoes to fill when he took over as sprint leader in the wake of Sir Chris Hoy’s departure, but after a low-key start he will be keen to rack up more world championship medals in Cali with the team sprint also high on his priorities.
Although disappointed, by his own admission, at his form during the World Cup events, Kenny had started his winter with bronze and silver medals at the European Championships while his success whenever he competes at Revolution proves he is still top dog, on these shores at least. Frenchman Francois Pervis, German powerhouses Robert Forstemann and Max Levy, and Russia’s Denis Dmitriev all provide incredibly tough opposition. But Kenny has proved in the past he is capable of beating them all. His incredible medal record shows that on his day he is among the world’s best, and the Bolton rider will doubtless love to prove it in Cali.
