Training with the pros: Mark Renshaw talks sprinting and lead-outs

Mark Cavendish's right-hand man reveals how to prepare for the bunch gallop and reflects on being reunited with the Manxman this season

Life in the bunch in the heat of a bunch sprint is complicated enough, not least when you ride for the most-marked team in the peloton.

With contenders for overall success, one-day races, sprints, breakaways and time trials there is plenty of expectation on the Belgian super team.

And Renshaw admits it takes maximum commitment to live up to such a billing.

He says: “It’s quite hard to manage the expectations sometimes. There are big expectations on this team to win, because of the riders we have.

“Across the board we have got some of the best so they expect us to win and that’s quite difficult. It’s crucial therefore to make sure everyone steps up in their role. Some guys have to ride out of their skin for this team.

“It’s a great team to be a part of. It’s a great group of guys and also friends who I have ridden with for a long time. It’s really enjoyable to be back with them.

“These guys are winners and when people are winning, everyone is happy. I’m happy to commit 110 per cent to these guys.”
