Cav roars back
One stage, one crash was the sum total of Mark Cavendish’s Grand Tour racing in 2014, but the Manx Missile will be back with points to prove next year.
In the run-in to the Tour de France, Cavendish looked more-than capable of reclaiming his throne as king of the sprinters from Marcel Kittel.
And he will undoubtedly bid to add to his 43 Grand Tour career stage wins when the season resumes.
Kittel and team-mate John Degenkolb will be among his biggest rivals, but on form Cavendish remains the main man – and with the Etixx-Quickstep sprint train finishing last year well they will be hard to beat if everything clicks into place this year.
With more points available to the sprinters in the race for the green jersey, and Tinkoff-Saxo likely to split their resources between Alberto Contador and defending points champion Peter Sagan, the maillot vert is also well within Cav’s reach in July.
